Review
Colbie Caillat's debut album, "Coco," takes us on a soothing journey with its easy-listening vibes directly reflective of her Malibu roots. Released on July 10, 2007, it combines Caillat's husky vocals with acoustic melodies, making it the perfect chill-out album. It’s impressive how it soared to number five on the US Billboard 200 right out of the gate, selling 51,000 copies in its first week alone. What's more, it has gone on to sell over 2 million copies in the US and over 3 million worldwide, solidifying its status as Caillat’s best-selling album.
The album's contagious lead single, "Bubbly," not only became a massive international success, but it also introduced Caillat’s signature catchy and heartfelt songwriting style to the world. Other tracks like "Realize" and "The Little Things" bolstered her fame, each adding layers to the album’s overall warmth and charm. The production, a collaborative effort by Mikal Blue, Caillat herself, her father Ken, and Jason Reeves, really tied the whole album together, providing a polished and cohesive sound. Despite some critics pointing out its predictability, Caillat’s "Coco" offers a laid-back listening experience that showcases her substantial talents and genuinely makes me smile every time I listen! - Ava
