Review

Well, hot dang if Cody Johnson ain't gone and done it again! His latest offering, 'Leather', is like slippin' on your favorite pair of boots - comfortable, reliable, and ready for whatever the day throws at you. This album's got more twang than a rusty screen door and more heart than a honky-tonk on Saturday night.

Johnson's voice wraps around these songs like smoke curling up from a campfire, warm and inviting. He's teamed up with some real heavy-hitters too - Jelly Roll joins in on 'Whiskey Bent', a tune that'll have you feeling like you're nursing a broken heart and a strong drink at the end of the bar. And when Brooks & Dunn show up on 'Long Live Country Music', it's like a torch being passed from one generation of country greatness to the next.

But it's not all beer and skittles, folks. Johnson shows his softer side on 'Make Me a Mop', a song so stripped down and honest it'll make you want to call your mama and tell her you love her. From boot-scootin' boogies to tear-in-your-beer ballads, 'Leather' proves that Cody Johnson ain't just playing at being a country star - he's living and breathing it, with every note he sings.- Lola
