Chinese American Bear – Wah!!!

Review

Merging the best of both worlds, "Wah!!!" is a total vibe, blending Chinese mando-pop with Western indie pop in a way that's totally fresh and exciting. Chinese American Bear, the Seattle-based duo made up of Bryce Barsten and Anne Tong, brings a unique perspective to the table, crafting a sound that's both quirky and charming. With lyrics that jump between English and Mandarin, this album is a celebration of language, food, and traditions that's both fun and nostalgic. The duo's use of childhood memories and favorite nursery rhymes adds a layer of depth to the album that's really cool. By combining these elements, Chinese American Bear creates a captivating sound that's all their own.

The album's tracks, like "Kids Go Down" and "Yummy Yummy Yummy", are total earworms, with a bubblegum pop charm that's hard to resist. "Heartbreaker" is a standout, with its dreamy, sixties-style guitar melodies and Mandarin lyrics that add a touch of mystery. The album's balance of playful pop hooks and cultural depth is what makes it so infectious and memorable - it's an album that's all about embracing your roots and having a good time. With "Wah!!!", Chinese American Bear proves that pop music can be both fun and meaningful, and that's something to get excited about.- Morgan
