Review

When I first heard "Something" by Chairlift, I was transported back to the neon-fueled 80s, a decade filled with raw passion, rebellion, and killer synth-pop tunes. This sophomore effort from the band is a bold departure from their earlier work, blending retro vibes with modern pop sensibilities. The production, courtesy of Dan Carey and Alan Moulder, is spot-on, giving the album a polished yet chaotic edge that keeps you guessing from start to finish.

Caroline Polachek's vocals are the star of the show, showcasing her range and versatility throughout the album. Standout tracks like "Sidewalk Safari," "Amanaemonesia," and the heart-wrenching "I Belong in Your Arms" demonstrate Chairlift's ability to craft catchy, emotionally resonant songs with an unmistakable flair. The album's cohesive feel comes from its seamless blend of chaotic synths and melodic pop, a testament to the band's growth and knack for storytelling. While "Something" may not fit neatly into a single genre, it's a testament to Chairlift's creative vision and solidifies their place as one of the standout acts of 2012. - Jessica
