Review
Caskets' debut 'Lost Souls' hits the ground running with the high-octane opener "The Only Ones," setting the stage for a metalcore assault that doesn't let up. The record's production is slick as hell, with the band's infectious energy bleeding through every track. Tracks like "Glass Heart" and "Lost in Echoes" are prime examples of their knack for crafting earworm choruses that'll have you screaming along in no time.
While some might argue that 'Lost Souls' plays it safe within the genre's boundaries, there's no denying the band's tight execution. The synth-heavy melodies and powerful vocal performances draw comparisons to heavyweights like Architects and Dayseeker, but Caskets manages to carve out their own niche. "Hold Me Now" and "Drowned in Emotion" showcase their ability to seamlessly blend crushing heaviness with soaring melodic passages, a hallmark of top-tier metalcore.
The album's back half sees Caskets experimenting with pacing, particularly on "The Final Say" and "One More Time." The closer, "Nothing To Hide," is a gut-punch of emotion that leaves you wanting more. While 'Lost Souls' may not reinvent the wheel, it's a solid debut that proves Caskets has the chops to hang with the big boys of the genre. Fans of modern metalcore will find plenty to headbang to here. - Thane
