Review

Cage The Elephant really shook things up with their fourth album, "Tell Me I'm Pretty," which dropped back in December 2015. Produced by none other than Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys, the band recorded this gem over at Easy Eye Sound in Nashville. It’s cool to see them sticking to their rock roots but still mixing in some fresh vibes. Each song on the album has got its own thing going on, which Matt Shultz, the lead singer, totally aimed for.

What’s interesting is the single "Mess Around" stirred up some talk about sounding a bit too much like The Black Keys, but then they came out with "Trouble," and it really highlighted what Cage The Elephant is all about. Recording the album was a trip too; Dan Auerbach pushed the band to the limit, preferring first takes and scratch vocals that really brought out a raw, authentic sound. Plus, the album cover that features Rachel Sykes is pretty slick, with Shultz himself adding some hand-painted touches. It's not surprising it snagged the Best Rock Album at the 59th Grammy Awards, with critics giving it props and a solid Metacritic score of 73. Definitely a solid record that shows Cage The Elephant has more tricks up their sleeve. - Aiden
