Review

I've got a confession to make - "Waking Up the Neighbours" was one of those albums that defined my teenage years. Released in 1991, Bryan Adams' sixth studio album marked a major comeback for the Canadian rocker, and it's easy to see why. The album's lead single, "(Everything I Do) I Do It for You," is still one of the most iconic rock ballads of all time, and its massive success - we're talking 16 weeks at number one on the UK Singles Chart and over three million copies sold in the U.S. alone - set the stage for the album's release. With its signature blend of catchy hooks and guitar-driven melodies, "Waking Up the Neighbours" is a masterclass in crafting compelling, commercially viable rock music. The album's momentum was undeniable, earning a Grammy Award and an Oscar nomination, and providing a major boost to Adams' career.

The rest of the album is just as impressive, with tracks like "Can't Stop This Thing We Started," "Thought I'd Died and Gone to Heaven," and "There Will Never Be Another Tonight" showcasing Adams' versatility as a songwriter and performer. The production, handled by Adams and Robert John "Mutt" Lange, is polished and well-crafted, giving the album a widespread appeal that's hard to deny. With five Top 40 singles and a peak at number six on the Billboard 200 chart, "Waking Up the Neighbours" cemented Adams' status as a global rock star, and its influence can still be heard in rock music today. The album's combination of hit singles, strong songwriting, and polished production makes it a standout in Adams' discography, and a must-listen for any rock fan. - Scarlett
