Review
"Broken Bells" is a wild ride, y'all! When James Mercer from The Shins teamed up with Danger Mouse (aka Brian Burton), magic happened. Their self-titled debut album dropped in March 2010, and it's been stuck in my head ever since.
Let's talk about the tunes, 'cause they're seriously something else. The way these guys blend indie rock with folky vibes and throw in some baroque pop for good measure? It's like they took all the best parts of music and tossed 'em in a blender. And don't even get me started on the instrumentation - we're talking guitars, drums, synths, and even a full-on string section! It's a feast for your ears, I swear.
James Mercer's vocals are the cherry on top of this musical sundae. The dude's got range for days, switching between tenor and falsetto like it's no big deal. And the tracks? Oh man, they're all killer, no filler. "The High Road" kicks things off with a bang, and "The Ghost Inside" is so catchy it should come with a warning label. But honestly, every song on this bad boy is a gem. The album hit number 7 on the Billboard 200, and even snagged a Grammy nom. Not too shabby for a debut, huh? - Madi
