Review

'Grains' from 2009 represents a turning point for Boozoo Bajou, the Nuremberg duo of Florian Seyberth and Peter Heider. What strikes me most about this record is how they've moved away from pure electronics toward something more flesh-and-blood, incorporating live instrumentation and guest vocalists. The album draws water from multiple wells - there's blues lurking in the corners, jazz sensibilities in the arrangements, and soul warmth throughout. That 1970s California feeling permeates the album, creating music that breathes with cinematic expansiveness.

The British singer-songwriter Rumer graces two standout tracks, 'Same Sun' and 'Messengers,' bringing a haunting quality that elevates the material. I find myself particularly drawn to how the duo balances experimental tendencies with melodic accessibility - they're pushing boundaries while keeping listeners connected through emotional resonance. The jazz-influenced 'Big Nicks' sits comfortably alongside 'Kinder Ohne Strom' with its spaghetti western guitar flourishes. This is music that respects tradition while refusing to be constrained by it, creating something that feels both timeless and thoroughly of its moment. - Micah
