Review

Devonté Hynes absolutely served with 'Coastal Grooves' back in 2011, giving us that first taste of Blood Orange's vibe that just hits different. This debut is straight fire with its '80s-inspired sound, delivering those funky grooves and slick guitar moments that live rent-free in your head. The way he blends catchy basslines with his unique voice creates this dreamy, shimmering atmosphere that's giving main character energy. When he dives into themes of self-discovery and love, you can't help but feel seen.

'Champagne Coast' and 'The Complete Knock' are literally everything – the kind of tracks that make you stop scrolling and add to playlist immediately. Sure, sometimes the similar production makes tracks blend together a bit, but that's also part of the aesthetic, ya know? The indie and synth-pop elements create this cohesive soundscape that's both nostalgic and fresh at the same time. This album was just the beginning of Hynes showing us he's not afraid to push boundaries and create music that's both personal and culturally relevant. - Morgan
