Bishop Briggs exploded onto the scene with 'Church Of Scars,' a debut that's as raw as it is polished. This 10-track powerhouse, dropped in April 2018, is a wild ride through Briggs' musical psyche. Her voice? It's a force of nature, man. Think Florence + the Machine meets Banks, but with a twist that's all Briggs.
The production on this bad boy is slick as hell, with Mark Jackson, Ian Scott, and Dave Bassett laying down a sonic foundation that's part electro-shock, part rock 'n' roll rebellion. Tracks like 'Tempt My Trouble' and 'The Fire' are prime examples of this genre-bending madness. But it's songs like 'River' and 'White Flag' where Briggs really lets loose, channeling her gospel choir roots into something fierce and unforgettable.
Now, I'll be straight with you - some folks reckon the album's formula gets a bit samey across the tracks. But who cares when it's this good? The charts sure didn't mind, with the album hitting number 29 on the Billboard 200 and cracking the top 5 on both the US Top Alternative and Rock Albums charts. 'Church Of Scars' is Briggs planting her flag in the music scene, and trust me, it's one hell of a statement. - Riley
