Review

"Home" by Billy Strings feels like an open highway stretching across Americana, pulling dust-kicking bluegrass into new directions. There’s an undeniable energy pulsing through the album—tracks like "Away from the Mire" spin out into wild, hypnotic jams, while songs like "Must Be Seven" (blessed with Molly Tuttle’s warm harmonies) huddle close around you as the sun dips low. The whole thing is grounded by Strings’ finger-blurring flatpicking, which almost feels like hearing a river race over rocks—untamed and lively.

As a fellow lover of wide-open sounds, I find the blend of Appalachian tradition and streaks of psychedelia honestly exhilarating. "Taking Water" in particular manages to weave thoughtful observation with melodies that invite you to lean in and really listen. Produced alongside Glenn Brown, the record holds everything together with just the right amount of polish, without stealing away any of its warmth. "Home" isn’t interested in simply paying tribute to bluegrass—it’s charging forward, heart on its sleeve, reshaping what the genre can mean. - Rory
