Review

“American Heart” feels like Benson Boone’s bold attempt to bridge theatrical pop production with big-hearted storytelling. The vocals are undeniably strong—his voice stretches and soars across tracks like “Sorry I’m Here for Someone Else” and “Mr Electric Blue,” showcasing his showman instincts. The synth-heavy shimmer of “Mystical Magical” and the sweeping sincerity of “Momma Song” hit the emotional sweet spot, even if they feel polished to a glossy sheen.

But there’s a tension here—an album that moves fast and flashes bright, yet rarely pauses to dig deeper. The production sometimes overshadows the writing, and Boone leans heavily on familiar pop tropes without always pushing into territory that feels uniquely his. Still, when he leans into intimacy rather than spectacle, you catch glimpses of something more resonant—a performer who could grow into more than just his voice. - Grant

Artist Bio

Benson Boone is a Monroe, Washington–born singer-songwriter who broke out on TikTok and a brief 2021 American Idol run before releasing his first single “Ghost Town” later that year. Blending pop with piano-led ballads, he signed to Dan Reynolds’ Night Street Records/Warner and has tallied viral tracks like “In the Stars” and the global No. 1 “Beautiful Things,” leading to his debut album Fireworks & Rollerblades (2024) and its 2025 follow-up American Heart. Career milestones include opening for Taylor Swift at Wembley and a Coachella 2025 set that featured Queen’s Brian May. Listeners who enjoy Lewis Capaldi, Dean Lewis, Stephen Sanchez, or Tate McRae will likely vibe with his emotive, hook-driven sound.
