Review
'Honeymoon' is such a sweet little gem! I've been spinning this Beach Bunny record non-stop since it dropped on Valentine's Day 2020. It's Lili Trifilio and the gang's first full-length studio album, and let me tell you, it's a total mood.
The band laid down these nine tracks at Electrical Audio in Chicago, and you can really feel the vibe of the Windy City in every note. Trifilio's songwriting is crazy good - she's got this way of capturing all those messy feelings of being young and in love (or not) that just hits different. 'Rearview' and 'Racetrack' are standouts for me. They've got this quiet-then-loud thing going on that gets me every time, and 'Racetrack' especially... whew, it's a gut-punch about heartbreak that uses the moon as a metaphor. So good.
But it's not all tears and tissues, you know? 'Dream Boy' and 'Ms. California' are these jangly, poppy tunes that'll have you bopping along in no time. And 'Cloud 9'? Total serotonin boost. It's like a ray of sunshine breaking through all the cloudy feels. I swear, Trifilio's got a gift for melody and lyrics that just speaks to my soul. If you're into indie rock that gets you right in the heart, you've gotta give 'Honeymoon' a listen. - Sienna
