Review

Well, well, well, looks like Bastille decided to crash the music scene with a bang, or should I say, with some "Bad Blood"? Their 2013 debut album didn't just dip its toes in the water; it cannonballed right into the deep end of the charts. Triple platinum in the UK? That's not just swimming, that's doing laps around the competition.

Now, let's talk about "Pompeii". This track wasn't just a hit; it was the musical equivalent of Mount Vesuvius erupting all over the airwaves. It peaked at number two on the UK Singles Chart, probably because it was too polite to knock the number one off its pedestal. And don't even get me started on how it infected TV shows like "The Vampire Diaries" and "Grey's Anatomy". I mean, nothing says "dramatic moment" like a catchy tune about an ancient Roman disaster, right?

But it's not all doom and gloom (or should I say doom and tomb?). The album's blend of indie rock, pop, and electronic elements is like a musical cocktail that shouldn't work but somehow leaves you wanting more. Dan Smith's vocals are so distinctive, you'd recognize them in a crowded karaoke bar after a few too many. And let's not forget, this bad boy of an album snagged Bastille the BRIT Award for Best Breakthrough Act in 2014. Not too shabby for a bunch of guys who named themselves after a French prison, eh? - Dave

Artist Bio

Bastille is an indie pop band from London, formed in 2010 and fronted by singer-songwriter Dan Smith. Originally a solo project, Bastille grew into a quartet with Kyle Simmons, Will Farquarson, and Chris Wood, and they quickly gained attention with their 2011 singles and EPs. The group broke through with their debut album *Bad Blood* in 2013, featuring the worldwide hit "Pompeii," and they’ve since released several albums experimenting with indie pop, electronic, and alternative rock influences. Noteworthy projects include their collaborative mixtape series *Other People’s Heartache* and an orchestral version of "Pompeii" with Hans Zimmer, as well as involvement in charity singles. Fans of artists like Imagine Dragons, Foster the People, and CHVRCHES will likely find Bastille’s combination of anthemic hooks and narrative-driven songwriting appealing.
