Review
'Off With Her Head' sees BANKS returning to her electro-pop roots with a fresh burst of energy! Her new album ditches the moody ballads of 'Serpentina' for the kind of sharp, skipping electronic tracks that made me fall in love with 'Goddess' all those years ago. She's brought back some OG collaborators like Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs and SOHN, but also teamed up with new voices like Doechii, Sampha, and Yseult which gives the whole project this super cool vibe. The distorted electronics on 'Guillotine' literally had me shook, and 'I Hate Your Ex-Girlfriend' with Doechii is such a mood with its deconstructed house beats! 🔥
BANKS really knows how to balance the intensity throughout this album. One minute she's serving us emotional drama on 'Best Friends' (that song about losing a friend hit way too close to home tbh), and the next she's getting our hearts racing with 'Meddle in the Mold.' The collab with Yseult on 'Move' is straight-up fire with those gorgeous vocal harmonies and lowkey sensual lyrics. And can we talk about that title track? Her soulful vocals on 'Off With Her Head' deliver such a powerful message about staying strong. This whole album shows off her talent for making music that's emotional but still makes you wanna dance! 💯 - Tori
