Review
I'm stoked to be talking about Atreyu's "Lead Sails Paper Anchor" - what a ripper of an album! Released back in 2007, this one marked a pretty big change in the band's sound, shifting away from their metalcore roots and towards something a bit more experimental. The result is a real mixed bag, with heavy riffs and melodic vocals that really showcase the band's ability to blend different styles. You can hear this in tracks like "Becoming the Bull" and "Falling Down", which have got some seriously catchy choruses and aggressive instrumentation. The production on this one is top-notch, handled by John Feldmann and mixed by Andy Wallace, giving it a really polished feel.
The lyrics, written by Alex Varkatzas, are all about personal struggle, relationships, and introspection - pretty deep stuff! And with guest vocals from Josh Todd on "Blow", it adds another layer of depth to the album. I reckon "Lead Sails Paper Anchor" is a real testament to Atreyu's versatility and willingness to try new things. Some fans might've been a bit taken aback by the new direction, but it's an album that's all about growth and experimentation - and it paid off, with a bunch of great singles and a solid spot in the band's discography. Fair dinkum, "Lead Sails Paper Anchor" is definitely an album worth checking out, with its unique sound and energy making it a standout in Atreyu's catalog! - Hunter
