Review
"Crimson" by Alkaline Trio really hit the mark when it dropped back in 2005. Working with the legendary producer Jerry Finn at Conway Studios really allowed the band to elevate their sound to a whole new level. The album, painstakingly worked on from late 2004 into early 2005, shows a more polished yet still edgy side of the Trio. Tracks like "Time to Waste" and "Mercy Me" are absolute gems, highlighting their ability to weave catchy hooks with deeply resonant lyrics. It’s clear they put a ton of thought into the song arrangements and lyrics, tackling themes of love, loss, and self-reflection with a blend of grit and introspection.
Critics often mention how "Crimson" sports a smoother sound than Alkaline Trio’s earlier work, but for me, that’s hardly a drawback. It feels like they managed to broaden their musical palette without ditching that raw, punk vibe that first drew me to them. The band's signature dark humor and emotional rawness are as potent as ever, making it a standout album in their repertoire. Whether you're a long-time fan or just dipping your toes into punk rock or emo, "Crimson" offers a rich tapestry of sound and sentiment that hooks you right from the start. - Sienna
