Review

Alex Warren’s debut, You’ll Be Alright, Kid, is a sweeping, emotionally charged confession that feels like a letter to his past self. Across its 21 tracks, Warren melds confessional folk-pop with cinematic pop production—think intimate acoustic moments like “First Time on Earth” laced with choir swells and reverb-heavy drama on tracks like “Bloodline” and “Ordinary.”

The standout is “Ordinary,” a soaring, angelic-infused ballad that dominated global charts and channels that tender vulnerability into universal appeal. But it’s in the quieter, more personal tracks—like the grief-laced “First Time on Earth” and the earnest storytelling of “Bloodline”—where Warren’s voice actually cracks textbook pop mold and makes something feel real.

While the album is undeniably heartfelt, some of its production feels saturated with formulaic tropes and trend-chasing polish. Still, when Warren pulls back the theatrics—even just a little—it’s his humanity that shines through. Sometimes that’s all he needs. - Rina
