Review

Ab-Soul's 'Control System' ain't your average rap album. This TDE joint dropped in 2012 and straight up changed the game. Soul flexes his lyrical muscles, diving deep into heavy shit like personal control and societal bullshit. He ain't afraid to get raw and real, especially on tracks like 'Empathy' and 'The Book of Soul' where he spills his guts about losing his girl.

The beats on this record are fire, with a crazy mix of samples from ELO to Aretha. And don't even get me started on the features - we're talking Kendrick, Danny Brown, Schoolboy Q, and more. Soul proves he can hang with the best and still stand out. Tracks like 'Terrorist Threats' and 'SOPA' show he's got bars for days, mixing humor with some serious commentary on government control and internet censorship. Critics were all over this album, calling it one of the best of 2012. And you know what? They weren't wrong. - Livia
