Review

Y'all ought to check out "Give It Up," the second studio album released in 1972 by the wonderfully talented Bonnie Raitt. This album delves into a rich mix of folk, blues, R&B, and soft rock, which makes it a real versatile collection. Bonnie penned three of the songs herself and did some fine interpretations of tunes from folks like Chris Smither, Jackson Browne, and Joel Zoss. It’s a patchwork of fast-paced folk rock tracks right alongside some tender ballads that showcase her fiery guitar skills and distinctive vocal style.

Critics were mighty pleased with this album when it first came out, and it ain't hard to see why. They were all over Bonnie's unique approach to her music, especially her knack for picking superb songs and bringing them to life with top-notch musicianship. "Give It Up" was Bonnie Raitt’s first album to hit the Billboard charts, climbing up to number 138, and it eventually went gold a good bit later in 1985. For anyone who enjoys a good mix of American roots music, this album is a gem in Bonnie Raitt's collection and sure deserves a listen. - Jackson
